My research topic is schizophrenia . I am looking into the real life of John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. I have heard his real life wasn't much like the movie. I also know that the medicine they use to treat schizophrenia has become much better because side effects to medication can be life altering. Also schizophrenics don't see things they hear things so Hollywood had to make up some of the movie. I feel sorry for the mentally ill because people have a tendency to be afraid of them so they get cast out of society and sometimes never receive the treatment they need.

  1. That's right -- a big Hollywood change was that Ron Howard (the director) chose to illustrate the 'auditory hallucinations' that the real John Nash experienced with 'imaginary people' (visual hallucinations). This isn't quite accurate (and there are other things to look at in this film). This can be a good topic. Try to keep the focus on the actual facts of schizophrenia (and John Nash's life if you do find a responsible source there). --Prof. Dragan
